Digital Scrapbooking

The program that I use to make all of my digital projects is called Storybook Plus 3.0 , from Creative Memories.  What a fantastic program!  I hope to show you many ideas here for you to use in your albums, page prints, or making cards, invitations, etc.

To make this fun Glitter title, here are the easy peasy instructions.

1.  Type your title " Sledding Fun" or whichever title you are using.  You will want to pick a chunky font.
2.  Make sure it is chosen, or highlighted.
3.  Now look down the left hand side of your screen where it says elements and find your title.  Click on the arrow down  button on it so you will get a drop down menu.  Third from the bottom is flatten, (when you flatten something you can no longer change it...it is like making it a sticker for you traditional scrapbookers).
4.  Now up at the top menu choose Format, and from there choose Surfaces.  You want the very first surface.
5.  Slide the amplification slider all the way to the right.  If you do it more than once you will get a greater effect.
6.  Voila, you have your glitter text.  Enjoy!

What to do with your fuzzy/blurry photos.

Have you ever had a photo you really like and didn't use it because it was a bit out of focus?  Well here is a way to get around that.  Just add a different texture to it and it will look like that was how you wanted it all along.  In Storybook Creator Plus 3.0 choose your photo.  Now look at the tool bar across the top of your screen (you should see home, insert, arrange, etc.).  Click on format, and you should see a little box now that says effects, and in that box is Surfaces and Filters.  Make sure your photo is highlighted, and then start playing.  There are many to choose from, just find the one you like for that photo.  You can use it on your digital page, or print it and use it in your traditional album.

How to Mat and Frame your photos

This is an 8x10 print I created for my niece for her birthday, using the Frills Digital Kit (I'm not sure if that one is available anymore).
1.  To create the mat on the four frames, highlight all of them at the same time (hold your shift button down and click on all 4).
2.  Now at the top tool bar click on format photos, the box underneath on the far right says Frames.  You want to choose the Mat option.  Another box will open.
3.  You can set the width to whatever size you want, I chose 2 to make a small/thin one.
4.  If you click on Change Mat Fill you have the option of picking what kind of colour or paper you want to fill your mat with.  I usually do Sample Colour.  With the little wand I clicked on her toque, and that is how I got the matchy matchy pink. :)  If you like it click on accept.  If you don't, keep playing until you do!
5.  To create the purple frame choose the button (beside Mat) Select.  You will get a drop down menu showing you a whole bunch of frame options.  Find the one that you like and click on it, the one I used is Bevel Cut.  It will give you that exact frame in that colour.
6.  Keeping that photo highlighted, right click your mouse.  Now choose Edit Frame Effects, click on the words Bevel Cut Mat, and then Change Mat Fill..
7.  Once again I did sample colour (this is my favourite), and I clicked on the purple in her scarf.  If you like the colour click on accept.

One of the other options you see that I use all of the time is Heavy Shadow.  This makes the photos and the other elements look like they are raised off of the page.  You will find this under the format tab.

Enjoy!

How to Create:
  1. Start with a new 12x12 digital project.
  2. Make Very Merry Paper 8 the background paper.
  3. Add Very Merry Ribbon 4 to middle of the page and drag so that it is slightly larger.
  4. Add three photo boxes to your page, make the top left one 3.4” x 3.4”, the top right one 4.0” x 4.0”, and the one on the bottom, 4.1” x 4.1” and then add photos to the boxes. I also change the photos to a sepia color under the “Format Photos” tab. Then right click on each photo and select “cut corners” and with a width of 20 selected select ok.
  5. Add Very Merry Ribbon 3 to the page and using the custom cutter under the “Cut & Fill” tab I cut out a small triangle out of the end of the ribbon. Then add snowflake 4 on top of where the three photos come together.
  6. Add the snowman embellishment to the bottom left corner and 3 snowflakes randomly to the page.
  7. Place a text box to the left of the bottom photo and journal, and another one to the top of the page for the title.
You might notice that I heavy shadow almost everything; photos, papers, embellishments.  This gives everything a nice layered effect.

    Embossing Digital Overlays

    1.  Click and drag the overlay that you want to use onto your page.  You might want to make it a bit bigger than the actual page size.  Position it however you like.
    2.  Now make the overlay the same colour as your page.  You can either click on the overlay on the left hand side under the elements column or click on the overlay on your page.
    3.  Go to the top tool bar and select Cut and Fill.  You will see Cutters and Fill.  Choose the Colour drop down tab in the Fill section. Now you want to select Sample Colour, and click on your page.  When you do this the overlay will seem to disappear, it hasn't.
    4.  At your top tool bar click on Format, and add a light shadow.

Ta da, there is your embossed Digital Overlay!

How to use the 3D Edge Filter

    1.  To create this page add 9 squares to your page all the same size and equally spaced apart.
    2.  Now make 4 triangles with the same dimensions so they will fit perfect over your squares.  Put them over the outside centre squares.  Click on a triangle to hi lite it.  From your tool bar at the top of your screen select Format, and then under effects select Filters.  At the bottom you will see Available Filters, choose the 3D edge which should be the 8th one.  Slide the Amount to 80, Softness to 0, and Width to 10.  I believe those are the levels I used, but you can play with it until you find something you like.  Click Apply when you have completed it and then do your other triangles.  I don't think you can hi lite them and do them all at the same time.
    3.  I placed stiching over my empty white seams, and then added the brads.
    4.  Place a photo in each corner, (Heather also had one in the centre, but I place a title there).
    5.  And again I added a heavy shadow to most of my elements.

    How to Create:
    1. Start with a new 12x12 digital project.
    2. Add Ribbon 2 to the page and rotate 90 degrees, place almost to the left edge of the page as shown, copy and paste the ribbon and move the second to the right side of the page as shown.
    3. Add a textbox to the bottom half of the page within the two ribbons, set the color to green (sampled from the wish content) add your journaling, copy and paste the layer, adjust the new text directly above the first, change the color to blue.
    4. Flatten the blue text layer, and select touchup under "format photos" use the eraser tool to delete some of the words (the words you delete will show through as green).
    5. Add the title to the top left side of the page.
    6. Cut a rectangle out of paper 6 and place accross the width of the page right in the middle. Use the straight cutter to cut the paper slightly more narrow on the left side.
    7. Add Ribbon 2 adjust so it covers the top edge of the paper.
    8. Add the picture to your page, I've made this picture sepia, reduced the saturation, added glow and rounded the corners. Copy and paste the photo, reduce the size of the pasted photo and place directly on top of the original, select the original photo and fill with a green sampled from the paper. Select both photo layers, group and rotate slightly, place on top of the paper towards the right side as shown.
    9. Add another Ribbon 2 and place horizontally on top of the photo, copy and paste the ribbon, move it to the bottom of the photo adjust the rotation so it covers the bottom edge of the paper.
    10. I added the brads and the Happiness title on my page as well.  You will need to adjust your photo size and ribbon placement a bit to make it work for you.
I found the Pea Jenny Scrip font at Abstact Fonts site.

Word Merge is a fun technique that allows your photo to flow into text! To get this look, start on a blank 12 x 12 Page in StoryBook Creator Plus.
Bring the photo onto your page. (Works best with photos that have the focal point more toward the center of the photo...you can always crop as needed, which is explained below!)
Next, make a text box and type in your word of choice using a “chunky, wide, font.” (Go to Dafont.com to look for some if you need them. On their first page, they have instructions on getting the fonts into your computer!)
Once you have made the text large enough to reach from side to side of your page, go to the top of the screen in the Layout tab and click, “Flatten” to flatten your text.
Now, move the text until it just touches your photo.
Next, hold your shift key down, and click on the photo and the text box. (You will see that they are both gray on the left of the screen in the elements section.)
Now, go back to the Layout tab at the top of the screen and click, “Flatten” again. You have just created ONE element out of the two.
Last, go BACK to the right of the screen and right click on your original photo and choose, “Fill selected element with this photo”.
Your photo will now flow down (merge) into the words you have added!
If your photo is not filling the area just the way you want it to, note that it is filling from the TOP LEFT of the photo you are clicking on in the thumbnail view. You may need to CROP the photo in thumbnail view by right clicking on it, choosing “Crop” and cropping a bit closer in.
